Definīcija: A stand-alone hardware appliance that hosts one or more storage devices (such as disk drives, tape drives, optical drives), and is peripheral to the server or servers that control access to it. Storage subsystems are used to create centralized data repositories, while freeing computing and storage resources on servers.
